Match Report – West Hoathly BC 24Aug22

A match played over FIVE RINKS at one of the most favoured of our outdoor fixtures resulted in admittedly a defeat but with our bottom rink losing by just an 8 shot margin the contest was close throughout and the BBA put in an excellent performance.

Our hosts were kind enough to provide us with a last-minute replacement for the incapacitated Tony Grimes who is, we are pleased to say, in not as serious a condition as was first thought and is now recuperating.

A rare sight for many of us was the introduction of protective mats on the green after a few ends, not a reflection of the standard of anyone’s bowling but apparently, they do like to make use of their sprinkler system!!

Another hot and humid day, but a very enjoyable one despite the match score of;

BBA 75 WEST HOATHLY 92

Top rink for the BBA seemed certain to be on Rink 3 where Messrs Yetman and Watson were seemingly in control until it slipped away from them, leaving our only winning rink of Mark Broughton, Val Baker, Paula Thompson, and Ian Frisby taking the honours having won by 19 shots to 12. This was Mark’s first game in 8 weeks, and he had a blinder…

WH are a very special crowd, and we had a wonderful early evening meal further enhanced by the presence of Harvey’s Bitter on draught, and we only lost the raffle prizes shoot out by 3-2.
