We had a lot of disruption to our team with players dropping out for genuine health reasons and we were thankful that David Evans found one extra player for us but we were still one short on the day.
We wish everyone who was unwell, a speedy recovery.
Horsham warmly welcomed us and the club looked very festive and full of good cheer.
The match was keenly contested and BBA were only three shots behind at the tea interval.
After tea, the score gradually went the way of Horsham and the gap grew to around 20 and it looked like the result was going the same way as many of our games this winter, but then things started to change.
BBA started picking up shots and the scores got closer, until with only one end to finish the score was 82-82 and on Colin Watson’s rink, we were holding one shot. With his final wood the Horsham skip drove and hit the head. The outcome was that he changed the situation and Horsham held one shot. Colin’s final wood narrowly missed its target so the final match score was a win for Horsham by 83-82; but this was by far our closest game this winter and a fantastic game of bowls.
Our top rink with a victory by 20-14 was our Senior Vice President’s rink of Glynis Atkins, Reg Rowlands, Robin Gordon and Paul Jolliffe.
After this defeat by the closest margin, we are hopeful that we can produce a victory soon and we march forward to our final two games of this year at Croydon then Donyngs.
